I Signed My Divorce Papers Again and It Was Kind Of Horrifying

But I also learned a little something about letting go, so we’re gonna talk about it.

The day I got the call from my ex-husband that we’d need to sign our divorce papers for a second time, I had a sense it would be weird. Talking about divorce papers is one of those uncomfortable subjects you can't find a way around, no matter how “chill” you are with each other.

I felt fine, though. We were fine at this stage in the divorce game after a few years apart. Marriages fail, and we happened to be one of them.

Such is life.

However, our calm over the issue didn’t make my voice any less thin when I asked my ex, "wait, didn't we already do this once?" after he explained we needed to sign the divorce papers one more time due to some stupid Air Force mishap.

Once it’s over, you forget

It took us a year after the call about the papers to finally get them signed.

I always wondered why I hesitated so long, but on the other side of it I can see I didn’t want to deal. Neither of us did. I like to think divorce is kind of that “put off for as long as you can” situation for a good chunk of people. And that’s because divorce sucks…
