I Paid a Psychic Artist to Draw My Soulmate
You could let the stars decide your love life, or you could move on with it yourself.
The ad popped up on Facebook one evening the moment I’d opened it. I’m not sure why it did — the normal ads that showed up on my feed were pretty accurate, but this was strange. I’d never been into psychic anything — the universe aligning, horoscopes, all that. It’s all fascinating but I try to be a realist.
This time I was weak.
Who doesn’t want to believe in instant magic?
The drawing arrived about twenty-four hours after I paid for it. I made sure to buy the psychic reading of my soulmate that comes with the photo for a small fee. Even if you don’t believe in soul mates, I have a very strong sense we’ve all wondered if there is someone out there for us. They’re wandering around the world waiting for you until — bam! You have a meet-cute and love hits you.
Still, though I was beyond curious, I almost didn’t open the email when it came in. I’d started this weird inner dialogue where I’d convinced myself I looked like a desperate spinster. Or that I was lining the pockets of some scam artist who I paid $30 to give me a random doodle. One they sent to fifty other women that morning.
“This is embarrassing”, I’d told myself as I’d clicked on the link, then again when the page started to load.
His face wasn’t what I’d expected. I’d half imagined I would have laughed, but I didn’t. Instead, I found myself blushing and thinking, damn, okay, soulmate.
Of course, I read the profile, which freaked me out quite a bit. He sounded as if the psychic plucked his description right out of my head. I’ve provided a snippet.
“The person revealed as being your soulmate is an artistic soul. This person is in a constant search for beauty in life. His life passions are poetry, painting, and enjoying music. He is a man of unique style and many heads will turn after him. He is tall and slender with a gaze always in the sky, searching for the deeper meaning of the universe. Mundane topics don’t interest him, his true passion lies in understanding our life purpose.
