I Got a Huge UpWork Gig on My First Real Try

and then I turned around and got another, and another.

Moments ago I just received the final payout for a gig I received days ago that paid the largest amount I’d seen on Upwork. After that, they gave me another. Currently, I’m also working on another, with more to come.

Hear me out.

Two days ago I was staring at a bank balance that didn’t meet the ends meet of what I needed for rent. I’d slacked the last month, granted, taking a few too many days off and found myself looking down the barrel of a very real situation. Luckily, I have an incredible family who would never let anything happen to me, but the safety net had been there too long, I needed to work. I know what I could and couldn’t do, what skills I had.

I needed to make money doing it. Plain and simple. I remember a quote from Tracey Folly came through my head at that time: Write like you don’t want to clean toilets.

Message received.

I think that’s where success in whatever your’e trying to do comes from: desperation. A need to make it work, no matter what. I had spent a good ten minutes crying hard tears over my stupidity and lack of work ethic before I bucked up and said, “I gotta figure something out.”
