I Didn’t Stop Her From Smoking While Pregnant
I didn’t even mention it. But why?
Kayla was a lovely girl. Pretty, kind, loyal to her customers and coworkers and a force to be reckoned with if someone crossed her. About two years into knowing her, she also became an expectant mother.
Like a lot of people (including me), Kayla smoked. Often when I’d stepped out to hit my vape, she’d be out there smiling and ready to trade crazy stories about our day.
I loved Kayla, but something really did bother me: Kayla didn’t stop smoking the whole time her entire pregnancy. And I’m still wondering why I didn’t say a damned word.
If I was disturbed, why didn’t I say anything?
I still remember the shock of seeing my friend smoking while pregnant. I’ve rarely seen women do this. Another casino recruited me for a while, and when I’d returned to home base, Kayla stood outside, glowing and six-months pregnant.
We’d exchanged hugs and Kayla started telling me about some horrible man who used her finger to stir his drink before sticking it in his mouth and sucking on it (yes, this stuff happens, it’s sick). All was well, and then she lit up a cigarette.
